IBT public meeting on water charges in Cork, Sun 1 Feb

Working Class vs Water Charges – Mass Action or Electoral Dead Ends?

Public meeting: 2:30pm Sunday 1 February, Cockburn Room, Metropole Hotel, MacCurtain Street, Cork

The fight against Irish Water and the charges is entering a crucial phase – delivery of the bills is getting closer by the day while meter installations continued, supported by heavy-handed Gardai inteventions on the side of Irish Water contractors.

Two main strategic paths are increasingly coming to the fore in discussions around how to defeat the water charges – mass direct action to stop the installation of, and remove, water meters combined with boycotting the bills, or downplaying these strategies in favour of electing a new government that will change the legislation.

This meeting is hosted by the International Bolshevik Tendency and the speaker is Alan Gibson, a prominent activist in the anti-water charges movement in Cork who was arrested last year for taking part in civil disobedience preventing the installation of water meters in Cobh.

There will be plenty of time for discussion and debate.
