Cobh activists stops water meter installation in local estate

Irish Water came on to the island earlier than usual this morning but we had spotter cars out even earlier and followed the trucks with the digger equipment up into the Rushbrooke Manor estate. Quickly mobilising the phone trees we got people there and were able to achieve a standoff where they worked on one house who is ok with the meter going in but we stopped them going to the surrounding houses where the residents are opposed. IW called the local Cobh guards but they said we had a democratic right to peaceful protest and if we were standing on the stopcocks IW couldn’t move us and the guards wouldn’t either. So it is a standoff with IW doing no work. As per this video – taken at just after 10:00 before I had to leave to get into work (late again…) and I’ve just confirmed at 11:30 that this still remains the situation.
