Joe Higgins gives the capitalists advice on how to fix their economy

“There is an alternative – no more of irish workers economic lifeblood to bondholders and bankers. Tax the super wealthy, invest in public infrastructure to put hundreds of thousands of people back to work, and remake this broken economy. Which will then provide the taxes and resources we need for our services, for health, for education, for our elderly people, and to creat a decent and sustainable life with dignity for all our people young and old.”

I always thought socialists, particularly those of a supposedly revolutionary kind, believed that it would require the overthrow of the capitalist socio-economic system before a “decent and sustainable life with dignity for all our people young and old” could be become a possibility. Seems I was wrong.

According to Joe what is necessary is taxing the super rich combined with a public works scheme to “remake” the “broken economy”.

And what is the nature of the existing Irish economy that Joe hopes to fix? A capitalist economy dominated by imperialist corporations!

So the “alternative” of the Socialist Party is to provide a programme for fixing the capitalist economy.

Is that really the message anyone in the SP who seriously considers themselves to be a revolutionary want their TD to be using the platform of the Dáil to argue for?
